What, where, why in August

Most months we look at each other and say "How come we're so busy?" I think knowing that children will soon be on the horizon (fingers crossed, no news yet!) we feel that we want to say yes to every invite, suggestion and trip.

August seems to be no different! Aside from both working full time, this is some of what we are going to be getting up to this month.

What?
Live Rugby Wales V Ireland

Where?
Cardiff Millennium stadium

Why?
I live with an incredibly proud Welshman! Luckily I love rugby as much as him so we (along with 8 family members) are travelling up to Cardiff to watch a friendly game before the Rugby World Cup kicks off later in the year. My brother & sister-in-law are travelling from Northampton to join us. The last time I watched a rugby match with them I drank too much beer, ate an obscene amount of Chinese buffet and played blackjack in a casino...wish me luck!

What?
Two night city break

Where?
London, staying at Dorsett Shepherds Bush , visiting Carsten Holler: Decision (thanks to Rosie's recommendation), eating at Roka Aldwych and Little Feast Street Food

Why?
It's my Birthday! As is now tradition each August we head up to London to stay in a lovely hotel and have a slap up dinner somewhere. This year we are going to stay up for an extra night so we can wander the streets without feeling like we need to visit lots of different places at breakneck speed. If anyone has any suggestions for fun but free places to visit please let me know in the comments section.

What?
A family catch up

Where?
Northampton

Why?
My brother is the big 40! There may be one or two things planned, but I don't know how much he knows so I'm going to keep it vague!

At the moment we have one free weekend. I'm sure that will soon be filled with a curry night, cinema trip or day trip along the coast!

I also have set myself the personal challenge of cycling over 300 miles in the month. In July I managed just over 200, with quite a few non cycling days so we shall see if I can do it!

What things have you guys got planned? Any suggestions for our free weekend?!

  1. I used to live in Shepherds Bush... it's come up in the world somewhat since we left! If you're a foodie I'd recommend walking down Uxbridge Road to visit Damas Gate and Al Abbas Lebanese supermarkets and also a nose around the market - very atmospheric!
